Languages and Communication

Nepali is the official language but over 120 languages are spoken. English is widely understood in tourist areas, hotels and trekking routes. Learning a few Nepali phrases goes a long way β€” "Dhanyabad" (thank you), "Namaste" (hello/goodbye), "Kati ho?" (how much?). SIM cards are cheap and available at the airport β€” Ncell and NTC are the main providers. Mobile data works well in cities and many trekking routes now have coverage. WiFi is available at most teahouses on popular routes though speeds vary.
